Final Remarks
Despite the criticisms I personally have of this event, specifically regarding the corporate-ification of Vouge and Houses, it was both successful and provided a night of fun and happiness to an incredibly stressed community during a difficult time, while also simultaneously raising money to support the Howard Brown Memorial Clinic.
Events like this are not only important because of the funds they raise, but also because they demonstrate to queer people and others affected by the AIDS epidemic that despite how it often seems otherwise, there are people who care about their lives and are willing to spend money to support places that provide vital services. Given the public stigma surrounding both queerness and HIV/AIDS, especially in the late '80s and early '90s, seeing this can give hope to people that not everyone is giving in to the public pressure regarding HIV/AIDS stigma.
